Pastor Gary Main, the son and great-grandson of Methodist preachers, began his ministry at the age of 19, serving as a student pastor during his college and seminary days in his native Oklahoma. He is a graduate of Oklahoma City University and Phillips Graduate Seminary and moved to Nebraska following seminary. He has served several churches across the state, as well as district Superintendent in Grand Island. He comes to Gretna after serving eight years as Senior Pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney.
Pastor Gary met his wife, Chris, while he was serving as pastor in Neligh. They just celebrated their 27th anniversary. Chris was a real estate title searcher for Vintage Title & Escrow in Kearney. They have four grown children who live in Kansas City, Beatrice, and Omaha. Their first grand-child is will be born in August.
Wherever Pastor Gary has served, his ministry has always been characterized by a caring pastoral presence, inspiring worship and sermons, and working with the laity to grow and strengthen their churches numerically and spiritually. He is excited to join his gifts with those of the Gretna United Methodists so that together they can reach out into this community to show the love of Christ in every way possible.
Beyond his ministry in the local church, Pastor Gary currently serves on the Great Plains Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and the Committee on Investigation. Pastor Gary loves being in the ministry, but in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, reading and travelling.
